CST Incentives

  • Students are eligible to request a 1-letter grade change if they meet the following requirements that are linked to their performance on the California Standards Test (CST).

     

    Environmental Science CST Incentive:

     

    -          For achievement on the Earth Science CST, both first and second semester grades are eligible to be raised.

    -          An “F” semester class grade will be raised to a letter grade of “D” for achievement on the CST of Basic and above.

    -          Both “D,” and “C” semester class grades will be raised one letter grade for achievement on the CST of Proficient or Advanced.

    -          A “B” semester class grade will be raised to a letter grade of “A” for the achievement on the CST of Advanced.

     

    Life Science CST Incentive

     

    • A student who earns an “F” in Life Science can receive a ONE LETTER grade change to a “D” if he/she scores BASIC or better on the respective Life Science or Biology CST test. 
    • A student who earns a “D” in Life Science can receive a ONE LETTER grade change to a “C” if he/she scores BASIC or better on the respective Life Science or Biology CST test.
    • A student who earns a “C” or a “B’ in Life Science can receive a ONE LETTER grade change (10%) if he/she scores PROFICIENT or better on the respective Life Science or Biology CST test.
    • Any student who scores advanced on the respective Life Science or Biology CST test can receive a ONE LETTER grade change for both first and second semester if applicable (both semesters must be from the same school year).
    • Any student who jumps at least two CST Science proficiency levels from the previous year can receive a ONE LETTER grade change for both first and second semester if applicable (both semesters must be from the same school year).

     

    A student must complete a CST Grade Change Form, attach his/her CST report, and submit the request to the teacher by September 9, 2011.  If a student does not choose to do this, no grade change will be made.  The teacher will verify the CST score and grade, sign the form, and submit it to the Assistant Principal of Guidance for a signature and processing by September 23, 2011.

     

    Stipulations

    • A teacher’s grades are based on the teacher’s grading policies and by state law may not be changed.  The teacher signature on the form approves the grade being changed.
    • This is a pilot and will be reviewed to see if it has had the anticipated outcome.
