Superintendent

  • Welcome to the Brawley Union High School District and the start of the 2016-2017 school year.  I hope everyone had a wonderful and rejuvenating summer.  I look forward to starting this school year as the Superintendent of the District after being chosen for the position mid-way through last year. I am proud to serve in a District I have been able to call HOME for the last 23 years.  I have been blessed in that this District has provided me many opportunities to grow and succeed both personally and professionally.  I cherish the opportunity to lead the District and ensure we act in the best interest of all of the students we serve.

We will strive to ensure your child receives a high quality educational experience while being actively involved and personally connected.  Our goals are to increase the educational achievement of all of our students, increase college and career readiness, close achievement gaps, provide a positive school climate, improve communication efforts among stakeholders, and ensure a safe and orderly environment.

Our staff has been working hard all summer in preparation for the start of the school year for students on August 22, 2016.  Modernization of classrooms in the "Junior College" building and Science wing has taken place.  Upgrades to the phone and bell systems have been accomplished and a thorough network upgrade has taken place to our technology infrastructure.  A new entertainment patio has been added to Palmer Auditorium and the dressing rooms have been modernized.  The New Gym is being completely resurfaced.  Additionally, a state of the art track surface has been installed at Warne Field.

Students will be afforded enhanced technology instructional opportunities as we ramp up our computer tablet device to student ratios.  Our English classes will experience a new curricular adoption fully aligned to the California Common Core Standards and mathematics will see a full implementation of an integrated mathematics programs.  Career technical education offerings are being expanded this year with the addition of a culinary arts and renewable energy program.

I am excited and look forward to working with all of you during the new school year.  Thank you for your support as we strive to educate your child in a safe, positive, and academically challenging environment.

    Cordially,

    Simon Canalez
