Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Simon Canalez
Happy New Year and welcome back to the remainder of the school year! I hope everyone had a winter break. We are so appreciative of the support we receive from all of you as stakeholders in our educational community and look forward to serving you in 2019 and beyond.
2018 was a great year for the Brawley Union High School District. Test score results from the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress Exam continue to be promising. The Imperial County Office of Education bestowed the District with its "Above and Beyond" Award for its service and commitment to students and the greater community.
Brawley Union High School was named to the Campaign for Businesses and Educational Excellence Honor Roll for high performance in closing achievement gaps in a high poverty community. Brawley Union High School also won the Imperial County Academic Decathlon. Desert Valley High School continues to be designated a California Model Continuation School. Additionally, our students and programs were featured in a number of national magazine articles highlighting their academic achievement.
Our students also excelled in athletics and won nine Imperial Valley League Championships. Boys wrestling won their 18th consecutive San Diego Section CIF Championship. Ladies softball finished as CIF runners-up.
As we begin 2019, we will continue to strive to ensure our students receive a high quality educational experience while being actively involved and personally connected. Our goals remain to increase the educational achievement of all of our students, increase college and career readiness, close achievement gaps, provide a positive school climate, improve communication efforts among stakeholders, and ensure a safe and orderly environment.
