Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Simon Canalez
Happy New Year and welcome to the start of second semester! We are so appreciative of all of the support we receive from our stakeholders. We look forward to serving our educational community in 2018.
2017 was a tremendous year for the Brawley Union High School District. Test scores on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress saw significant increases in both English and math. The District was named to the College Board's Honor Roll in 2017 for its accomplishments regarding Advanced Placement test results. Brawley Union High School received a CSBA Golden Bell Award for its Civics Program Initiative and was also honored by the White House for its Environmental Literacy Initiative. It was also named a US News & World Best High School. Desert Valley High School was named a California Model Continuation School and received a six year WASC Accreditation. Additionally, our students were featured in a number of national video documentaries and magazine articles highlighting their academic achievement.
Our students also excelled in athletics and were acknowledged by the Imperial Valley Press as the “Top Sports Story of 2017”. Boys wrestling won their 17th consecutive CIF championship. Ladies wrestling and Ladies soccer finished as CIF runners-up. Boys basketball made their second consecutive appearance in the CIF championship and brought home the title in 2017 after finishing as runners-up the year before. To cap everything off, Boys baseball won a CIF championship as well.
As we begin 2018, we will continue to strive to ensure our students receive a high quality educational experience while being actively involved and personally connected. Our goals remain to increase the educational achievement of all of our students, increase college and career readiness, close achievement gaps, provide a positive school climate, improve communication efforts among stakeholders, and ensure a safe and orderly environment.
