    Mrs. Carol Sassie was first elected to the Brawley Union High School DistrictBoard of Education in 2011 and was re-elected to a four-year term in 2015.  She is a 30-year resident of Brawley.  She attended Ygnacio Valley High School in Concord and received her B.A. Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento.  Mrs. Sassie retired as a Game Warden with the California Department of Fish and Game after approximately 23 years of service.  While employed, she served as the Chairperson for Department’s Statewide Field Training Officer Program; taught Hunter Safety classes to adults and children; and mentored new Game Wardens. Moreover, she participated in Brawley Union High School Career Days as a guest presenter on numerous occasions.  Mrs. Sassie is married and has a daughter who graduated from Brawley Union High School and is attending a four year university.  Mrs. Sassie has been a substitute teacher for the past 6 years.  She is currently the Director of the Religious Education Program, Kinder through sixth grade, at her church.  For the past eight years, she has been a Girl Scout Troop leader and has also been actively involved with the Brawley Sunstrokers swimming organization where she has held the offices of President and Vice-President.  Mrs. Sassie has a strong focus on academics and believes that all students should graduate from high school prepared to enter college or the work force. She also believes that the education of our children is a partnership between parents, students, and the school.

    Mrs. Patti Wilson was elected to the Brawley Union High School Board of Education in 2015.  Mrs. Wilson is married and lives in Brawley with her husband and three children.  She is 1988 graduate of BUHS and earned her B.A. in Environmental Studies at California State University, San Bernardino.  Upon returning to the Valley, Mrs. Wilson started her career with the Imperial Irrigation District specializing in environmental resources. Recognizing a need for arts education, she and a partner successfully opened Ooh La La Dance & Studios, which she operated for ten years. Mrs. Wilson has served the community of Brawley by volunteering on various boards and committees including Brawley Beautification, Inc., Brawley Little League Board of Directors, Chamber of Commerce Cattle Call Committee, Cattle Call Mini Rodeo Committee, M & M 4H, First Presbyterian Church Sunday School Superintendent, North County Coalition for the Arts, BUHS Parent Connection and BUHS Site Council.  Mrs. Wilson believes in a student-centered approach to decision making and is committed to advocating for high quality educational opportunities for every student.

    Mr. Rosendo Garcia (Rusty) was elected to the Brawley Union High School District Board of Education in 1987 and was reelected in 2003, 2007 and 2011.  Mr. Garcia is a life-long resident of Brawley and an alumnus of Brawley Union High School. He attended Imperial Valley College and San Diego State University.  His professional experience includes 23 years of employment with the Imperial County Probation Department.  He retired from the department in July of 2011.  Mr. Garcia is an advocate for children’s education; a strong believer in the benefits of quality public schools; and a proponent for athletics; the use of technology; the arts; as well as Career Technical Education.  He is married and has three children who graduated from Brawley High School.  Mr. Garcia is actively involved in the community organizations such as the Hidalgo Society and Knights of the Columbus that stress the importance of educating all students and promoting community and cultural growth.

  • Gabriel Contreras

    Gabe Contreras was elected to the Brawley Union High School Board of Trustees in 2013.  He is a proud Class of 1993 BUHS graduate.  He has four beautiful children: Savannah, Gabriel, Kamryn, and Sienna.  Savannah is currently a junior at BUHS.  Gabe has been involved in Imperial Valley Sports for over 13 years serving in various coaching capacities.  He has been a local business owner for the past 9 years and strives to give back to the community.  He is involved with the Rotarians, Chambers of Commerce, and the Imperial Valley Young Professionals Organization. 




  • Ralph Fernandez

    Mr. Ralph Fernandez was elected to the Brawley Union High School District Board of Education in 2005 and was re-elected in 2009 and in 2013. He previously served as President of the Board in 2007. Mr. Fernandez is a life-long resident of Brawley and an alumnus of Brawley Union High School. He has served on the California School Boards Association's Delegate Assembly since 2007, representing the Imperial County Schools.  He was appointed to serve on CSBA Legislative Committee in 2008-09 by CSBA President Paul H. Chatman.  Mr. Fernandez retired after working 33 years in Law Enforcement with the City of Brawley Police Department and the California Highway Patrol. While employed, he promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and worked most of his career in the El Centro Area, (Imperial County). He is also an adjunct faculty at Imperial Valley College teaching several Law Enforcement subjects. Mr. Fernandez is an advocate for children’s education and a staunch believer in the benefits of strong public schools and a proponent for higher education. He is married and has four (4) children who graduated from Brawley Union High School District. His children have all attended four-year universities and have received post graduate degrees. Mr. Fernandez is an actively involved community member. He chaired the Brawley Chamber of Commerce Cattle Call Committee in 2007 and also served as a three-term chair of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Committee. In addition, he serves on two non-profit boards in Brawley.
