On Monday, April 28th, two scholar-athletes from Brawley Union High School were honored as the top male and female BUHS senior scholar-athletes in the San Diego CIF Section during the San Diego High School Sports Association’s annual Scholar Athlete Awards ceremony.
In addition to their athletic achievements, both students excel academically, maintaining a 4.0 GPA while serving as Commissioners of Athletics for Brawley Union High School's ASB for the 2024-2025 school year. They are actively involved in Honors and AP classes, as well as various clubs, demonstrating their dedication to both academics and extracurricular activities.
Senior Isabella Yesecas is an outstanding softball player who, during her junior year, set the record for most hits in a single season at Brawley Union High School. Her impressive accomplishments include earning the Rookie of the Year award and being named MVP twice during her high school career Her coach, Jeffrey Wise, who has guided her throughout her four years, reflected on her achievement: "I've been keeping track of our statistics since 2008, and it's not often that records are broken here. It's something she can truly be proud of—making history at BUHS."
Senior Rane Reeves has played four years of baseball and football at Brawley Union. Despite an injury during the football season, Reeves demonstrated his resilience by making a swift recovery in time for spring sports, with baseball being his priority as Team Captain. Reeves has received numerous awards throughout his athletic career, including the Freshman of the Year award in baseball, the Rookie of the Year award in basketball, and the Varsity Baseball Golden Glove award.
"They're both exceptional students," said Brawley Union High School Athletic Director Billy Brewer. "Our school is known for developing great student-athletes, and that's thanks to the dedication of our coaches, staff, and parents who work tirelessly to help our students excel on all fronts."
Both students signed their letters of intent in February at the BUHS gym. Isabella Yesecas committed to continuing her softball career at California State University San Marcos, while Rane Reeves will play baseball at Arizona Christian University.
