Brawley Union High School Celebrates a Homecoming to Remember

This weekend, Brawley Union High School proudly celebrated its annual Homecoming, a tradition that brings students and alumni. More than just a dance, it’s a weeklong celebration of school pride. Coinciding with Higher Education Week, students were encouraged to envision their futures beyond high school through spirit days.

On Wednesday, BUHS JV football team took the field against Calexico JV, securing their second win of the season with a score of 20–6. But the most memorable moment came in the final play, when Calexico’s #90 Sergio “Keko” Molina, a player with autism, was given the chance to run the ball. As he dashed toward the end zone, both teams dropped to the ground in a show of unity. The crowd erupted in cheers, and players from both sides huddled together to celebrate the moment. A video of the play, shared by @BUHSAthletics and later reposted by Molina’s family, quickly gained traction online.

Thursday night marked the Homecoming game, as Brawley’s varsity football team faced off against Calexico High School. 1957 Homecoming Queen Judy Harcourt was honored with a parade past the cheerleaders, followed by a ceremonial coin toss led by City of Brawley Mayor Gil Rebollar, a former BUHS football player from the Class of 2008. The Wildcats triumphed with a 28–14 win, kicking off their Imperial Valley League season with pride.

The highlight of the night came during halftime, when eight BUHS seniors stood for the crowning of the 2025 Homecoming King and Queen. With smiles and anticipation, the crowd cheered as Fernando Valenzuela was named King and Kaitlyn Barrigota was crowned Queen. Their reign will be celebrated at the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 27th.

Friday’s campus atmosphere was fueled by the previous night’s victory and a spirited pep rally. Students enjoyed performances from the BUHS band, rock band, and a trio of Spanish singers. The Homecoming Court joined in a lively game of Hungry Hippo, but the biggest crowd-pleaser was the class lip sync battle. Judges awarded the Class of 2027 the win, but every class brought their best moves—and more are expected at Saturday’s dance.

As Saul Morales, homecoming court, put it, “Homecoming isn’t just about football or fancy outfits—it’s about showing up for each other and making our last memories together. Morales is Class of 2026 Vice-President so he is enjoying all his last moments at Brawley Union.

As we celebrate our victories and honor our traditions, we continue building a legacy worthy of every wildcat past and present.
